Explore Funningur: Where Faroese History Begins
Experience the incredibly beautiful village of Funningur on this village stroll with guide. In the Saga of the Faroese, it is written that the first settlement in the Faroe Islands was in Funningur, and that the place got its name from this, when land was found. The first man to set foot on land was Grímur Kamban.
While walking through charming streets you will learn more about the village, local anecdotes, historical places/houses, the church and the traditional Faroese Chain dance. When speaking of villages for traditional Faroese chain dancing, Funningur is among the foremost mentioned.
The village stroll ends in the old school in the village where a light meal will be served by the locals.
