Experience the Atlantic Sheepdog in action

Sheepdogs are used in the Faroe Islands to help farmers gather and move sheep. The most common breed is the Border Collie, which is trained to respond to whistles and voice commands. The dog works by circling around the flock and guiding the sheep in the desired direction without frightening them too much. This makes it much easier for farmers to control large groups of sheep, especially in areas that are difficult for people to reach on foot.

Sheepdogs are an important part of traditional Faroese sheep farming, as they save time and reduce the need for many people when herding sheep.

Meet Jónstein, a local dog trainer, who will demonstrate and explain how the dog assists in herding sheep. A unique experience which is hard to find elsewehere!
